SMGP-1445 1902 Pattern German Navy Presentation Dagger
This ultra rare dagger is a partial restoration, having had some oxidation removed from the blade, a repaired scabbard release button and new scabbard throat retention screws made. The original ones were missing entirely and the threads stripped out. The dedication is from one cadet/officer to another. The initials in between the two monograms are S/l (Sienem lieben) "In admiration of" and is fire gilded gold inlay. The blade is the cut down cadet version we see from time to time, where officers would have them shortened for balance while hanging. The officer chose to retain the original length scabbard, and im glad he did, as I feel the cut down scabbards look "off". The blade is a stunning maiden hair genuine Damascus by Carl Eickhorn. It also has the deluxe grip and cut out pommel nut. Lots of upgrades with this piece! a fantastic addition to a high end collection.
